Porad ? - Any Ideas

I have come across a census record - 1851 for a possible relation and the place of birth is given as Porad, Lancashire

I did a search on Google but this doesn't appear to be a place and is possibly a transcription error.

I've looked at the original image and it is very difficult to read it appears to say Lancaster, followed by a 5 digit word which begins with P and ends in D the other three letters are quite blurred.

If anyone wants to take a look the details are

The 1851 word does indeed look like "Porad" but checking the 1861, William's birthplace is given as Preston, Lancs. 
At least it starts with the same letter!

P.S. Just a thought - could the 1851 word start with "Br" rather than Po"?  There are similarities with the "B" on the line below.

I think it is a P rather than a  B Prue

It does say Lancaster, rather than Lancashire (but then again the enumerator uses Stafford not Staffordshire). I think he probably couldn't read his own writing and knew nothing of the stated localities (rather like me trying to pronounce Prahan in Melbourne - and I've probably spelt it incorrectly too)

I thought if it was Lancaster, the second word may be the parish, but there is no parish name that looks like what is written - so I think I would go with Prue's find in 1861

LOL Trish...you did actually - it's Prahran - but I don't know how to say it either    I just say "Praaaaaan" and hope people know what I'm talking about!

I'd have got on well with that enumerator - when in doubt write something no-one can decifer or pronounce  .

I hadn't checked the 1861 or indeed 1871 census records for William both which have Preston as his birthplace. I have been following back his son Charles (My wife's Gt Grandfather)
