Alexander Mckenzie born 5th Dec. 1832

Some of the following relates to Urquhart but it might be easier for you to get a picture.

In the 1881 census Alexander is married and living in Urquhart with his wife Isabella and his family.  It states he was born in Rathven.

I found an Alexander Mckenzie in Parish records of Rathven.  He was born or christened on 5th December 1832.  However family bible says 15th December 1834.   On Alexander's marriage certificate in Urquhart, Morayshire on 18th December 1856 it gives parents as Alexander Mckenzie and Jane Kerr.  On his death certificate of 2nd January 1913 in Urquhart, Morayshire it gives them as Alexander Mckenzie and Jane Carr.  I have also picked these up from IGI. Up until the marriage and death I am sure as I can be that I have the correct Alexander. 

On the 1841 Rathven census I found an Alexander 40 years wife Jean and children Elizabeth 14, George 11, Alexander 8, Isobel 5, and Ann 1.  Can anybody find these children marrying.  I would like to find if the mother's maiden name is Kerr/Carr.  This would maybe tell me if Alexander is part of this family.

I know the ages can differ on censuses and certificates.

I have an Alexander Mckenzie having married a Jean Car on 16th October 1824 at Fordyce.  This was extracted from GRO (no image). Also Alexander marrying a Jane Ker on 2nd November 1824 at Rathven.  This was extracted from IGI.  And Alexander's death on 1st February 1881.  I think I got this from IGI.  Can anyone find any records in the Rathven records for anything I have mentioned.

Any help with this would be much appreciated as I cannot go any further back until I sort this out.

I've checked Alexander's deathcertificate of 1881. he died aged 84 yrs in Cullen, married to Janet Carr. His father was William McKenzie and his mother was Janet maiden surname Grant.

As you probably know, Jane/Jean/Janet were used interchangeably so i think this is the person you want.

I'll have a look around to see if I can find any other information for you.

This is probably explained by the IGI/Old parish Records recording banns and/or marriages. The first entry at Fordyce (where Jane/Jean/Janet was born) were banns. The second at Rathven (where they settled) were either banns or marriage.

I'll check for Jean/Jane/Janet's death next. I'm sure the family that I've given 1851-1881 are the same one as your 1841 one.

I have still to study the information properly but certainly looks like you are getting somewhere.

You have certainly answered the two marriage dates query being the Banns date and marriage date.
