« on: Tuesday 23 January 07 03:50 GMT (UK) »
I want to find out some information on how to track down a military record of my father who was in the Dutch army during the period of 1946 - 1948.  Can anyone please suggest where I could look for some information, any help would be appreciated ;)

Hi Kurow and welcome to RootsChat  :D

Can you give us a little more information about your Dad ? what do you know already ? so we won't be going over "old ground " !!

Do you know where he went with the Army ?

This may give you a little background ... if you don't know anything yet !!  :)

My father's name is Albert Wijnveld and he was conscripted into the Dutch army at Alkmaar in the year of 1946-1947, he was in the army approx 2 to 3 years.  He was moved around Holland and emigrated to New Zealand in 1952 on the ship Zuiderkruis.  We cannot find any records of his ship journey either.  Thanks ;)

Hi Kurow

I asked my friend in New Zealand about your query and this was the reply !

Quote
Re Kurow's enquiry, I know almost nothing about Dutch emigration to NZ although I know that many Dutch emigrated to NZ following WWII I checked Archives NZ Archway

http://archway.archives.govt.nz/Home.do

entering the ships name and got 14 strikes, all for correspondence over various years from 1952 onwards. I wonder if Archives NZ might hold a passenger list for the voyage but that era isn't my area of expertise. Kurow might need to enquire by emailing Archives. The Archway site has contact details. This might help Kurow a little, anyway

So maybe you could send an email and see what you can find out ..... worth a shot I think - don't you ??

Sorry for the delay, I contacted Archives NZ and found that all the passenger records are held in
Wellington, New Zealand.  Some lists of persons that arrived in Lyttleton, New Zealand can be viewed at
Archives New Zealand
