'Will' Applications.
« on: Tuesday 23 January 07 17:08 GMT (UK) »

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but, does anyone know how long it normally takes for a request for a 'Will' from the York Probate Sub-Registry (UK.) to be processed please.....

Been waiting over three weeks now!!.......is that about normal?.....

I expected it to be something like getting a Birth Certificate etc., (3 to 4 days).... ;D

I've found them very variable. They're certainly not as quick as the GRO is with certificates. I last ordered one at the beginning of December, it still hasn't arrived and I've just sent a reminder. The previous lot of wills took about 4 weeks, but that was over a year ago.

Hi Michael
I ordered 3 wills at the end of October last year but only received them mid December.  Seems there was quite a backlog such is the upsurge in interest in genealogy so a 3 week wait could be early days.

Hope you have better luck than I did - none of the 3 wills existed....

Since my earlier message I've checked the application form, it says:
"We aim to respond to your request within 21 working days" [my emphasis]. That, of course, is more than 4 weeks, plus the Christmas and New Year holidays ....

Many Thanks sallysmum and Colin......I was just starting to wonder whether they had even got my request..... ;D

I don't mind the wait and I'm not holding my breath for a jaw-dropping result......but any kind of result would be nice eh?....

My Grandma and Grandad were very well-off with four Fish and Chip shops in Cleethorpes and Grimsby, and property, before the outbreak of WWII.....I know, I lived with them upto they're deaths in 1945 and 1946 (Until I was 12) after the death of my Mother when I was 5.....

Now I'm in my 70s I've suddenly got this urge to find out what the hell happened to all their assets.....never bothered me 'til now... ;D ;D ;D
