Hello all

No, not all cemeteries keep records on-site.

If the cemetery is maintained by the local council, the records will be with them. Some local councils will do look-ups free of charge, they are often more willing if you have a date of death as it means less work for them.

Older private cemeteries such as Highgate and Kensal Green now have 'Friends of' associations who look after and maintain the old ledgers. They do make a charge for their look-up services.

Hope this helps

Sorry, forgot to put this one in.

Shoreditch is covered by Hackney Council. There is a list here of their local cemeteries.

Hi Brig

Battersea is now under the London Borough of Wandsworth

http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/Home/CommunityServices/Cemeteries/default.htm#thecemeteries

shows which ones they now look after.
