Hi If I remember rightly there is a chap who specialises in the Cheshire Regt. I will have a look to see if I can find something and get back to you. By then some of the "experts" may have taken a look.

Hi All  :-[

Many thanks for the replies, and please accept my apologies for not replying sooner, got no notifications  :-[ :-[ :-[

It looks as if I have looked up the wrong details from the CWGC site.

This is the link to the Congleton War Memorial That contains James Brindley's name http://www.carlscam.com/congleton/warmem.htm

I assumed he would have been Cheshire reg, wrongly  :( :(

Where have I gone wrong and can anyone put me on the right track to find more details.

regards

Hi Peter!

Memorials are notoriously difficult to trace, as the person in question may have only had a passing connection with the place in which the memorial stands  :-\

How did you come to the conclusion that he was wrongly the Cheshire Reg?

Having searched my Brindley relatives in and around Congleton I am convinced that this chap (James Brindley) is in someway connected.
After seeing the name in the memorial I went to find him in the CWGC searchable site, quite a lot of the J Brindley's came up with no age or dependants named, so wrongly guessed at the one in the Cheshire Reg.

Just need to find out his age and was he living in Congleton or had parents there.

Perhaps you have already tried more local stuff  :-\ Like I was wondering if the local council or local history centre had a memorial book  ??? or could advise you?

Hi

Thanks for the advise I have written of the the local studies library to see what they have.

But in the mean time I have another possible.

Jim Brindley 17th Bat Manchester Reg. service num. 43219 died 23/4/1917 if anyone can turn up any other details on him I would very pleased.

I do have a Jim in my family born 1891 Macclesfield who later moved to Congleton.

Harribobs,  What is the SDGW, if its a database is it accessable online ?
