1891 Census Northumberland/ Durham
« on: Saturday 28 February 04 05:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Long shot I know, I'm looking for the HENRY Family.

John James HENRY about 12 or 13 years old, father's name John and mother's name Mary Agnes.

I know that there were other siblings, but I do not have names.
Unable to locate them in the 1881 census but I know they are in either Northumberland or Co Durham. John James married Elizabeth May PUNSHON in Chester-le-Street 1902.
John James left there about 1912 and came to Australia.
Wife & children followed later.

Thanks Geoff

Hi again Geoff

Long shot I know, I'm looking for John James HENRY about 12 or 13 years old, father's name John and mother's name Mary Agnes - I know they are in either Northumberland or Co Durham.

Looked on the 1891 census on line with the following results:
There were 14 John Henry aged 12 – 2 of whom were in Cumberland or Northumberland, but non with John & Mary as parents; there were 13 John Henry aged 13 with 5 of them in Cumberland or Northumberland.
But I think this looks very promising:

RG12/ 4316/ Folio 7/ Page 8 - No 42, Brett Row, Preston Quarter, Cumberland
HENRY John, Head, Marr, 50, Coal Miner, born Down, Ireland
Mary, Wife, Marr, 42, Whitehaven, Cumberland
John, Son, 13, Scholar, born Whitehaven
Margaret, Dau, Unm, 9, Scholar, born Whitehaven
Bridget, Dau, Unm, 7, Scholar, born Whitehaven

Hope they turn out to be the right family

Hi Chris,

Since I posted I have learnt, just yesterday, that John James Henry was born in Seghill, Earsdon,Tynemouth, Northumberland on the 4th May 1878.

The chap that sent me this info {another HENRY researcher} says that John James had at least two older sisters, but he has not been able to identify them as yet.
Mary Agnes, his mother, was Mary Agnes BUCHANAN, her father's name was MICHAEL and at the time of their marriage in 1868 the BUCHANAN'S were living at St Lawrence, Newcastle upon Tyne.
They have been a very elusive lot, but now I have a bit more to go on.

Cheers
Geoff
