i am looking for some info on my great uncle....robert sproat...he was born stranraer in 1835 aprox..he married isabella nelson and had 6 children.....what happened to his children???any ideas??thanks georgina

forgot to say that all sprout children born in stranraer.

robert married isabella on the 7th jan 1859, wigtown

i wouls aso like to find my great grandfather thomas sproat..he married a jean buchanan in about 1778...he was a tailor ..did he have brothers and sisters and who were his parents???thanks georgina

the census details in scotland only go back to 1841, and the oldest thomas on the 1841 census is the same thomas which i posted on 1851 census, but here he is on the 1841 census

1841 census; cowans close, stranraer

thomas...age 50...tailor
mary...age 40
thomas...age 18...app tailor
william...age 16
john b...age 14
jane...age 10
margaret...age 8
robert...age 6
ann b...age 4

there is 26 sproats on the 1841 census, the oldest being edward and janet both from ireland age 60

sorry i can do no more, looks like old parish records for you.

that was my great grandfather....but his father was also thomas .......thanks joe...georgina
