I used the original image and it seems to Fouchard to me but it is close set writing so could easily be mistranscribed.

Best thing to do is list in chronological order per person what PoB you have.  As you say Cumberland could just be a mistake?  Also need to consider that this family, like other teachers travelled.

Dumfries is spitting distance to Cumberland, I have many family that dot across the Solway.  Is it Jemima junior you are particularly keen to follow?

If so her 1841 entry...

Liverpool Islington

Disley Street

Jemamia [badly written] Fouchard   50  Ind    S
Rosalee Fouchard   20  Bonnet m.                   S
Jemima Fouchard   15  FS                         N
Charles James            3m           Y

If correct does say she is born England but NOT Lancashire.  So Cumberland is a possibility.

My descendant is actually from William c1824 and his son William Thomas c1853 also supposed to be born Liverpool but Jemima (Jemimea) c1826 is Williams sister and any info is appreciated.
Jemima's husband John Vicars was in Whitehaven in the 1841 census with a y to born in county.

If i can find her birth it may help with finding the other births and the mothers proper first name as the mother Jacobina seems to have changed to Jemimea.

Are you as confused as i am yet ;D

Anthony died 14 Dec 1847,  Liverpool.

A Monumental inscription if there is one often helps but how many graveyards must there be in Liverpool. Unless there is one near the Disley St address were Fouchards were living in 1841.

Eddie,

Hi, I've joined this chatroom as I saw that you were looking for Anthony Fouchard.  My mother in law's maiden name was Fouchard and, we understand, that the family originated in the UK because of Anthony.  It's our understanding that he was called the French "Antoine" at birth and then came to the UK and changed his name to Anthony.

Do you have any more info on him please?

Thanks & regards

Lindsey

Brilliant - thanks Eddie.

Beryl was born in 1943 in Ashton under Lyme.   She is the daughter of Robert Fouchard, a painter and decorator born in Hulme, Manchester in 1909.  In turn, he was the son of Robert Fouchard, a carter, born in Ardwick in 1881.

We wondered whether Antoine was, perhaps, a prisoner of war in the Napoleonic war, hence him moving to the UK.  I've tried using French geneology sites but unless you know where in France he was born it's difficult to get going.

Hi Lindsey
I have a Robert Fouchard born 1909 Chorlton (from free BMD so would be registration place) and his sister Mabel born 1916 but their father Robert i have as being born june 1/4 1886 Chorlton (again BMD so birth place could actualy have been Ardwick as any addresses i have are Ardwick).
Robert senior married Emma Platt Dec 1/4 1907 and he died Mar 1/4 1923.
I could have the wrong dates but the three census i have him in all show 1886.

As Robert seniors birth date doesn't match we need to establish that we have the same family before we exchange information that might be wrong.

Send email address via a personal message, it will be easier than going through here with all the info.

Regards
Eddie

Hi Eddie,
Amelia Fouchard is my gg grandmother.  She married David Wilcock in 1872 and immigrated to the US in 1874.  Just wanted to say thanks for posting the info about her family.
