missing death record
« on: Friday 26 January 07 15:42 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone shed a light on what could have happened to my Uncle's Death record. Family know he was killed in action while flying over the Shetland Isles on the 21 June 1940. But have searched the death records but cannot find his. His name was Patrick Frank Clarke and he was 21 yrs old. Family think he was buried in the Shetland Isles.
We would like to be able to see he grave this summer if possible when we travel up to Scotland.
Can anyone help?

Hi Benitachell

Have you checked the overseas section of the GRO (War Deaths) indexes available (free) at the Family Records Centre, London or online (Pay per view) ie.

Hi,

I would suggest searching the Scotlands People site for his death cert details. You should find him on there. If you wish to know further details about his loss, you might try the general queries message board at:

www.rafcommands.com

There are 2 or 3 Scottish researchers that use that board, and one, Malcolm MacDonald is in the Shetland Isles I believe (it might be the Hebrides, I can't remember, but he's on a island in the North!)

Hopefully he might be able to help you, and someone else may well have some details relating to your relative's death.

Good luck,

Regards,

Ann

Many thanks to you all. It has been a great help.
We are now making plans to take his last surviving sibling at the age of 77 to see his grave. She is now America so this is going to be one great trip for her.

Hi benitachell, and Welcome to Rootschat  :D

If your coming this summer, perhaps you have time to post on the Scotland boards regarding any newspaper reports from the time?

Just an idea.
