i have just discovered that James Croft married Susan Millar on 13th July 1835, in Malone Presbyterian Church.  He was a coachman for a linen factory owner living on malone road.  I have his fathers name from the marriage cert, how can i find out James' mother's name?

Probably need a baptismal record to find mother's name, unless he was born after 1864 (when civil registration of births started).

PRONI might have the church records but you need to know the church first. Also, it is possible that the church records will go far enough back to find the information. It is usually easier to trace people in the country rather than cities.

ok thank you.

I don't know the church, but if he got married in the presbyterian is it likely that he was born presbyterian or would that be the girls church?  Sorry to be a pain, this is the first real research I have had to do, most of the rest of it has come very easily.

Marriages usually, but not always, took place in girls church. However, another possiblity is a Registry Office wedding- more common years ago for several reasons.
Do you have any idea of when marriage might have taken place (your earlier post said 1835)?

In that case it is entirely possible that the baptism records for wherever James Croft was baptised no longer exist. It would be very difficult to locate such a record without having a very good idea what church, or denomination, to look at.
