Jersey and Alderney Look Up for Webber's
« on: Sunday 28 January 07 22:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am new to the Channel Islands site but have been doing my tree for about 8 years now.
Have been on the trail of my Somerset Webber's for a few years now and have at last found them in 1851 in Alderney, have searched the GRO index for England with no success for a marriage but realise now it may be in Jersey and some of the children's births.
I am looking for
Marriage of Simeon WEBBER to Tryphena EDMOND'S possibly in St. Helier Jersey between 1841 - 1845
Births
Edna WEBBER born about 1844 in St. Helier Jersey
Jemima WEBBER born about 1845 in St. Helier Jersey
Martha WEBBER born about 1847 in Alderney
Also a Death of Simeon WEBBER before 1861 as his wife was back in Somerset in the workhouse with all the children and as they were in St. Anne's, Alderney in 1851 it could in that area.
Any help much appreciated as this is a major break through on this line.
Thank you
Stetray

Hi

This one has been outstanding a long time. Do you still need the information? If so, I can look it up for you.

Hi Tracey

Well not all good news I'm afraid.

I can't see a marriage between SW and TE. Neither of them appear on the 1841 census so that one is not looking good.

I found the birth of Jemima Ann Webber in the volume 24th Dec 1845 to 12th Feb 1847, page 16.

I couldn't find a birth for Edna Webber but did find an index entry for Adna Webber in the 1st Oct 1843 to 14th Nov 1844 on page 91.

As for the Alderney entries, I'm afraid someone from Alderney/Guernsey will have to pick this one up.

Regards.

Stewart

Hi Stewart, that was quick, thank you so much. Every little bit helps to confirm the bit of info I did have. They have certainly kept me guessing for the last couple of years.
Thanks again

This thread is very old but I'm replying just in case since I'm working on this family.

I have noticed that Simeon Webber Adams married Tryphena Edmonds in Chard. I have no idea where the "Adams" came from, or went to later. It may have been a recording error but I am waiting for some certificate copies to dig deeper. There may have been more than one Simeon Webber family, too, as the one in the 1861 census is probably not the same one.

Hi
I haven't done any research lately but always happy to receive any info you find on this family as Simeon and Tryphena were my GGG grandparents via their daughter Tryphena.
I actually managed to find that wedding in 1844 at Chard and have the certificate but not sure how much further I got as been a while since I looked so will have to get my files out.
Look forward to hearing from you and where you fit in and happy to share anything I have for them.
Regards

Thanks Tracey. I don't use RootsChat much but I can't see any way of contacting you directly -- I can't even send you a RootsChat message.

I'm related to the Chard (& Combe St Nicholas) Webbers. I don't know where the Stone Mason who occasionally lived on Jersey and Alderney fits in yet. Did you ever find a death registration for him? That would rule out any theory of desertion and starting a second family.

I can see that Tryphena married a Walter Mansfield, and located her death as Tryphena Mansfield -- having such an unusual name is a great help, if the spelling is consistent  ;-)

I also came across a Simeon who was a rector and a vicar in the newspaper archives, and I need to show whether he's yet another individual or not.

Ah, just found "Edna Webb" [sic] on http://jerripediabmd.net/BMD_UserStuff/Baptisms.aspx. Her baptism was on 3 Nov 1844 in St Helier. The parents are the right ones, although the spelling is a bit of a mess.
