HI Annie

No I am afraid I do not.

I noticed or think there are other people also as there are four entries on the page.

Would it be against the rules to list them also?

Thanks for your help.

Sandy

The medal cards come in sixes .... sometimes it helps if you're not quite sure which one is yours !!  ;)

but you have his service numbers and so "that" card is yours !!

It's possible he was in the Boer War also ... that's why you can't find him in 1901 .... what was his date of birth do you know ??

Nope !!!!!!!!!!!!  just aged 30 at marriage in 1916 and father Raphael.

It is my  husband's grand-father.

His mother is un-well and memory is vague so does not re-call.

No known photograph and my husband does not remember him.

Well here goes - Andy Pay has blinded me with science !!  ::) ::) I asked him about the 10th London turning into the Rifle Brigade ..... I didn't know if that was applicable here !!

Sandy ........ you said Frederick got married in 1916 .... wonder if he was on leave ?Anyways ......

Hi Annie,
Complicated, but I will give you a run down. Basically it became a territorial battalion of the Rifle Brigade in 1916 but here's the lead up.
It was the 18th Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps raised in 1860 as the 36th Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps.
1880 it bacame the q8th Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps
1881 in bacame a Volunteer battalion of the Rifle Brigade.
1900-02 a detachment served in South Africa with the City Imperial Volunteers
1908 in became the 10th (Copunty of London) Battalion the London Regiment (Paddington Rifles)
1912 it reformed as 10th (County of London) Battalion THhe London Regiment (Hackney)
1914-18 the 1/10th Battalion and the 2/10th Battalion served in Gallipoli, Palestine and France and 3/10th raised as a training battalion.
1916 it became a territorial battalion of the Rifle Brigade
1922 it became 10th London Regiment (Hackney).
1929 it became a territorial battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regiment and was never thereafter affiliated with the Rifle Brigade.

OK now to the nitty gritty, a lot of men from the Rifle Brigade were transferred into the 1/10th and 2/10th battalions.
Hope this answers your question tongue.gif

;D ;D Well done Annie, not bad, not bad at all, source is "The Rifle Brigade - Militia, Volunteer and Territorial Regiments - The Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps" by Michael Haines, an ex Rifle Brigade Officer who unfortunately passed away early last year, a good friend and an inspiration for me with the assistance given on the Rifle Brigade.

Annie,
As its you I will check some of the rolls I know where men were transferred to the 10th but the medal rolls reference given from his MIC are TP which indicates London Record Office.
Incidently battle honours fot the 10th in WW1 are
1/10th, Suvla, Ali Muntar, Gaza, Lydda, Dein Tureit, Majdal Yaha & Rafa Rilth
2/10th, Arras, Ypres, Passchendael, Villers Bretonneux, Chipilly, Bray sur Somme, Epehy, Leus & Manlde.
