I bet you can't help me !!
« on: Tuesday 30 January 07 12:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,     :-[    :-[

Here's a difficult one for you !

My great great Grandfather was William Smith, I'm looking to find his birth.  He married Sarah Licence at St. Georges, Hanover Square, London on 20th April 1845, they were both of full age. At that time he was a Servant, they were both living at Park Street, London. I don't know if this was their home or the home of Williams employer.  His father was Joseph Smith, a Gardener.
I know nothing else about him, I got all this info from the marriage certificate.

I'd be very grateful for any help on this, or can someone point me in the right direction please.!!   ???   ???

Regards
Foz

what was Sarah's father's name ?

the name is rare - and only a few in Suffolk show up ....

a Sarah aged 15+ in 1841 has a father John ...

Sorry, but looking for William and Sarah in 1851 without PoBs is not really an option ...

Hi Foz (and Newfy),

Did you find him on later census returns?  :)

Hi Newfy,

Sarahs father was John Licence (b.1796, Palgrave, Suffolk), he married Sarah Newstead (b.1795)
not sure where she was born, but probably Brome or Bressingham, Suffolk.   They married 12th October 1819 Suffolk County BTS.

I knew this would be a difficult one !!    :o    :o

Thanks for your help anyway.

Hi Foz

You know more about this than you are letting on (oh yes you do!)  ;D

For this chap to be your ancestor, you must know the name, date and place of birth (even if roughly) of at least one of his offspring - these facts will help to locate the family on later censuses.

Have a wrack of your brains and i'll bet you have a few more facts at your disposal.

Can you help us? should be the question!!  ;)

BTW who were the witnesses on the marriage certificate?  were they both single before this marriage, as far as you can tell?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Snap Kath!
