Maltby Connections

HI Nick

My great-great grandmother was Ellen Maltby 1839 (Falsgrave)-1897 (Arundel St, Hull). Her parents were Edmund Maltby, a stone mason from Newbegin, and Mary Bowes from Scalby. Ellen had a brother Thomas, a whitesmith, who seems to have married an Elizabeth (but haven't found the marriage cert yet). In 1861 they were living in Leeds.

Is there any chance there's a connection?

Quite possibly a connection. I have Charlotte Maltby b 1818 to John and Esther in York. I know nothing about John, other than he was dead by 1841 when Charlotte married. I think Esther was born in Thirsk according to a census, but do not know her maiden name. Will post name of Maltby site when I can (it is bookmarked on another computer). As there are precious few Yorkshire Maltbys (most are from Notts), the chances are high of a connection at some stage.
