morning Tia and welcome to rootschat,

To help you obtain a copy of your grandfathers army service records go to http://www.veteransagency.mod.uk/service_records
there is a charge and a waiting period but it can be worth it. If the link does not work for some reason go the home page of the site at www.veteransagency.mod.uk and click on the right hand side of this page where it says "service records". hope this helps.

Tia,

You may be able to track down his birth cert. via The Overseas Birth Index if he was a British subject.

The index is available on line, (pay to view) via www.findmypast.com As you know the year it should not cost too much  :-\

Once you have the index reference you can order his certificate in the normal way from The General Registry Office (GRO)

Hope you find it!

Wendi  :)

Hello Tia

This is a good site for researching families in India.

http://www.fibis.org/sitemap.htm

I have had a quick search for Charlesworths but think yours are a bit later than those covered by the databases at present.

However the site is really useful for learning about the various resources available and understanding how things were organised in terms of registrations etc.
