McClements of Belfast
« on: Wednesday 31 January 07 17:41 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any info on the McClements of Belfast.  Dennis Hugh McClements was born around the 1830's and his family moved to England.  The story goes that Dennis' grandfather was the master craftman working on Belfast cathedral but we don't know how much of this is true.  Apparantly his death was in the front page of the local newspaper on the same night that they reported King George's funeral.  If anyone knows whether this is a myth or not let me know!!

Hello thurston,

You have me puzzled with the dates in with your post.

Do you mean the death of the grandfather of Dennis had his death reported on the 15th July 1830 ... the day the funeral of King George IV took place?

The foundation stone for St Anne's Cathedral was laid in September 1899 by the Countess of Shaftesbury. Initially, only the nave of the Cathedral was built, and this was consecrated in June 1904.
