I looked for DK's son Daniel also in 1901 but could not find him in Scotland. There is a Daniel Kirkland in Lancashire, England born Scotland about the same age - 22 years. As this is where the likely candidate died then it is more and more likely him.

I still find it incredible that people travelled so far to get work.
