Where is this farm?
« on: Friday 02 February 07 07:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

In a will dated 1884 there is a mention of Thomas Ellwood yeoman Davygitt or Davygilt. The will was of John Ellwood of Blasterfield Crosby Ravensworth brother of Thomas. I know that Thomas lived in Maulds Meaburn but have never before seen a reference to this farm.

Does anyone know where it is?

Thanks in advance,

Gillian

Hi, I lived at Crosby Ravensworth for 30 years  and cannot quite understand how Blasterfield Farm is in Staffield, penrith, my boss used to live there and it was in Orton parish, I don't mean to be rude but where did you find Staffield? as I have never heard of it before.

Apologies for 'butting in' Rumba .......but I think Gillian was talking about Davygitt or Davygilt ........ not Blasterfield.

Hi Jean & Rumba,

Thanks for your replies!!!

Rumba - Jean is correct in saying that I was looking for Davygilt which I have since discovered is in Staffield CUM. Where did you live in CR? My grandparents lived at Lyvennet and ggrandparents lived at the smithy (became the post office & now is the CR archive), Blasterfield Farm and the schoolhouse Reagill.

Jean - thanks for putting Rumba on the right track!!

ooops sorry for getting wrong end of the stick?
My grandparents lived at the smithy you talk about, latterly called Bridge End House, we lived next door in the bungalow which was also the post office once my grandmother retired. The Lyvennet you refer to is it just Lyvennet or Lyvennet Bank, maulds meaburn.

Hi Rumba,

Lyvennet is the house after CR fell gate on the road towards Woodfoot. My grandparents had the house built c1930. It was bought by a Langhorn family who train dogs. I believe the family still live there.

I have some old postcards of CR if you are interested in scanned copies. Some are of the Smithy. Did your grandparents run the postoffice? I remember the PO as a child.
