Kingston Workhouse, 1859, PARKER
« on: Friday 02 February 07 10:03 GMT (UK) »
Can someone please tell me where the Kingston Workhouse was located and what parish it was in in 1859? Where should I look for records, if any exist, of my GGG-grandfather Jacob PARKER who died there.  I am wondering if other members of the family were also "incarcerated" or just him alone.  Thank you!

He may have been in the workhouse because he was unwell not because he was a pauper.

Thank you both for such quick replies!  Jacob most likely was at Kingston due to ill health since his death certificate cites a diseased lung.  I still wonder at the conditions within and will do some more reading.  Again my thanks!  Dawn

In 1861, there was one Parker at the Kingston Union Workhouse:

J. Parker, 69, male, widower, farm labourer, b. Kingston, Surrey

I had one elderly relative who was in and out of Islington Workhouse infirmary; he'd spend a couple months in, a couple of months out, and once ended up in the workhouse proper (maybe he hadn't been able to get into the infirmary).  Do you know what Jacob's occupation was? (His ill health may have been directly related to his job, that's all)

I should have added that the vaults at Bonner Hill were where the parish workhouse sent their dead.

Whilst I am at it, these are the other Parkers with consecutive ID numbers to the Jacob who died in 1859

PersonID Forename Surname Year of Birth
7507  Jacob Parker 1787
7508  Elizabeth Parker 1794
7509  Elizabeth Parker 1833
7510  Walter Parker 1836
