Link: German headstones in Australia
« on: Friday 02 February 07 22:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I came across this site which seems to be growing rapidly with over 31,000 headstone photographs
Helpful if you are tracking German immigrants.
I  will put it on top of the board too. Under Vic

Hope you don't mind Sue, I have changed the title of this post as it is not only Vic Gravestones. I met Detlef today (13 Mar 2007). He is in Australia for a few weeks photographing German Headstones in Australia. It was my good fortune to meet him. He is a lovely man. When he returns home in a few weeks there will lots of additions so stay tuned.  ;D .........Kris   ;)

i'm new here so this post caught my eye,

but looking at the dates i expect it will be too late.

there should be a treasure trove headstones at the cemetary near dunwich on north stradbroke island i think it is near amity point?

that is where most of the german imigrants seem to be landed at for quarantine i would presume, i know all our relatives off that tall ship they came in were landed there and among the germans that i know a lot died there.

then most i guess headed toward beenleigh and yatala where i know they built a lutheren church and had the grave yard there as well. aparently at yellow wood mountain there was a german settlement or lots of german families lived there helping each other.

My first post here at RootsChat!

The Barossa Valley in South Australia was an area where many Germans settled. Here is a link to a website listing many of the local churches and cemeterys.

If anyone ever wants photos, I live close by and may be able to get some for you.

http/www.ozcemeteriescom/qld%20cemeteries/glencoe_luth.htm  link broken

This cemetery is literally packed full of Germans (from what I can deduce). There are also many other grave listed in other locations on the site.

If you're interested the Rundmann family buried there (in the link above) are my ancestors.
