Steeles Marriage 1900s
« on: Saturday 03 February 07 08:31 GMT (UK) »
I cannot search the Marriage Indexes on Ancestry.compage by page as I only have dial up internet, and it is just so very very slow to download each individual page. If I paid for some credits from findmyfamily.com, would I be able to search more easily and quickly for my Edward STEELES' second marriage on that site?

The marriage would have occurred sometime after 1904 when his first wife died. The family story is that his 3 sons migrated to Australia because of his second marriage - either because it had happened or because it was going to happen. The sons migrated around 1911, so I guess I would be searching from 1911 to maybe 1920. Of course, the family story may not be true, and I may have to search further.

Can anyone help re the best way for me to go about it please?

Thanks Chorlton but unfortunately that is the marriage of my Edward's first cousin twice removed Edward Vernon Steeles.

I thought that would have been too easy :)

I can't help with ideas on speedier searches unfortunately, as I don't know that much about other sites.

But if you give his date of birth I could help to scan through ancestry to see if he pops up with a marriage record.

Hi Dee

I can do a trawl for you on Ancestry.com - have satellite download and is very very quick.  I will do it later this pm and get back to you.

Cheers

Edward was born 20 January 1851 Marham Norfolk.  As an adult he lived in Kings Lynn. He married Lydia Tomblin Clarke 22 September 1880 in Holbeach, Lincolnshire. Their children were all born in Marham or Kings Lynn, excepting the eldest who was born in Newark Nottinghamshire.

I do now that his second wife was Mrs E Steeles - but was the E for Edward or for her own given name?

Thanks Cando and Chorlton.

Ancestry only seems to come up with 4 in total:
Charles Edward Steeles 1906 Oct-Nov-Dec    Kings Lynn  Norfolk
Edward Steeles 1855 Jul-Aug-Sep    Stepney  Greater London, London, Middlesex
Edward Steeles 1880 Jul-Aug-Sep    Holbeach  Lincolnshire
Edward V Steeles 1912 Jan-Feb-Mar Maugham  Grimsby  Humberside, Lincolnshire

But I found this one, not sure how good at spelling they would be

Name: Edward Steel
Year of Registration: 1907
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Yarmouth (1837-1924)
County: Norfolk
Volume: 4b
Page: 14

Thanks Chorlton - it is a possibility - the name was recorded in many different ways, although usually in earlier years. The time frame would fit though....Lydia dying in 1904 -  and by then the sons were all in their early twenties.

Hi Dee

Initially trawled STEELES, Edward from 1910 - 1920 - nil but only checked on the above spelling.   Then started at 1904 and found the entry listed by Chorlton  in 1907 - wife is Ethel Stalkeld BUDD.

No index for Steel, Steele or Steeles in Q2 1912 and Q1 1917.  I don't know whether the indexes are missing but seems strange that no Steel or variations were in the indexes for those quarters.  I have found indexes missing on Ancestry before.

Cheers
cando
