Thank you both Becky and Excel for your speedy response.

Look forward to hearing from other folks too.

The Coldingham Thorburns and their spouses is interesting research.

I have made contact with one in Australia.

in the 1851 census he is listed as born Coldingham

I have always meant to find out about Allerton as I can't find any place like that in Northumberland. There is an Allerton in Yorkshire. On 'old-maps.co.uk there were places called Allerton in Yorks and Cheshire.

Hi Becky,
Is the place not called Allanton or is there also an Allerton? I had wondered if that could have been where he was born but that is certainly not in Northumberland!

Hi,

It is spelt Allanton and is in the Ordanance Survey map for Kelso &  Coldstream and according too my wife was a small village with one pub, but don't know as yet which district it came under for census.

Comes under Edrom.
