1871 there is no number for Moor St - but I know what it is!!!!

The Gwatkins are at the top of the page -so address is given as just Moor St but...
next house is number 22 and is a grocers.
Page before shows number 19 Chemists
number 20 George hotel that is the bottom of the page!

1881
RG11 5219 29 19
pages 18 and 19
George hotel
next door no 21 is Ellen Drinkwater W 67 annuitant and family
next page is greengrocers shop
24 moor st is mary Ann Watkins  W 33 with 10 year old daughter Eliza.
The John /Maria combinations I would doubt are them
One John is a House Decorater/Painter with children John, Florence, Charles jas, Ernest and Mable
the other John is a General labourer with sons Milson and Tom.

Will have alook around 1881 census

Great information being posted -love it when RootsChatters all pull together, Don't you

Thank you both! You really are wonderful for helping out in this way. This is even better than reading a good mystery book.

found the Bezants in 1851 and this time, it definitely says Bezant on the census.
Welsh St, Chepstow H0107/2443 folio 306 pg 28
John Bezant head mar 48 paten maker b. Wiltshire, Chippenham
Sarah wife 56 b. Monmouthshire, Abbey

not sure about Abbey, that's certainly what it looks like, possibly Tintern Abbey.
They were still there in 1861 RG9/3976 folio 35 pg 27, John being a turner and patten maker. Sarah's pob still Abbey. Transcribed as Berant again despite an obvious tail on the 'z'.
Still can't find them in parish records so marriage possibly before 1813.
