Clara E. Robinson
« on: Saturday 03 February 07 21:56 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find some information on my Great grandmother Clara Robinson, who was born in Malton in 1873. She married Francis Kitson in 1893 and lived in Middlesbrough. The only thing i know about her family was her father was called John.  ( This from her wedding certificate) Can anyone find her on the 1881 /91 census please.

Hello Denise

Does the marriage certificate have her father's occupation?

There is this one:  1881 RG11; Piece: 4852; Folio: 123; Page: 40

9 Cook Street Middlesborough

John Robinson 35yrs general labourer b Clowton
Matilda 30 yrs b malton
Clara 12yrs b Malton
Sarah 9 yrs b Scarborough
Henry 8yrs b Middlesborough
Ada 6 yrs b Middlesborough
Charles 4yrs b Middlesborough
Hannah 2 yrs b Middlesborough

this age fits in with 1901 census for Clara - b 1869.

best wishes
heywood

Thank you Heywood. That i think will be Clara and the family . My sister has her wedding certificate so  i will look at it again, but i do think John"s occupation was general labourer. You have just opened up a new line of searching for me .
Thank you again  Denise  :) :)

Hi Heywood
You have solved one question i had . In the 1901 census There is Clara and her family and a servant called Hannah Robinson. Obviously not a servant at all but Clara's youngest sister.

freebmd has a marriage for John Robinson to Matilda Wilden Jun Qu 1870 Malton 9d 600 although they would already have had Clara by then so may not be right.
Here they are in 1871:
RG10/4854 fol.52 p.18/19 97 California, Eston, Yorks
John Robinson 30 Labourer Yorks Scarborough
Matilda            27                     "    Norton
Clara                3                      "    Malton
Sarah               1                      "    Scarborough

John & Matilda's ages looking a little odd, shaved a few years off as they got older!
