Jan,
I'm a bit confused by the description  ???
Any chance of a photograph of this inscription and symbol?

The dates on the inscription are definitely 1815 & 1818, not 1915 & 1918?
13 RF might be 13th Royal Fusiliers?????

Are you thinking along the lines of something like (a wild guess) 13th Royal Fusilers 1915-1918?

I assume this is on the front of the grave and not the numbering of the grave/stone mason's marks which are usually quite unobtrusive on the bottom or the rear of the stone?

i think that it's the 13th battalion Royal fusiliers

with a little artistic license from the mason

there's few possibles on the MIC index

this may be him

Hi Jan,
Ah, now I see the photo I agree with Harribobs, it's a (not very accurate) representation of the Royal Fusiliers badge (a flaming grenade).
Presumably then he served from 1915-1918. Do you have any photographs of him in uniform, or anything similar?

Yes, I agree with that too :)

If the grave is situated in a local borough (council) cemetery then you should be able to get some information from them ie.

Burial register (details of burial)

Grave register (details of everybody in the grave)

Grave purchase register (who purchased the grave and when any monuments erected etc.)
