Hi Jenn and Annie, Well glad it's not just me  ;D

Sometimes, I would get that E-Commerce "Shopping Basket Page" too, Jenn - but I noticed sometimes the items went into it a $0 charge, and then it wants you to register with E-Commerce part of the site.... yet for the item Annie wants, it doesn't even go to the basket, just to some form page where the words OrderDigital Copy aren't  mentioned at all - very very confusing.

I filled in the form for an item on another name I want, and put in the subject that I want a digital copy, and in the details, what the Primary Item nr was, the series number and the title of the item (including the name of the person.
For the bit of the form which talks of printed copies, I left it blank but then added more about wanting a digital copy!  Sent it off - they say 30 day response, so will see!

I also noticed, a whole series (10's of 1000's long )from which I ordered a digi copy last year seems to be all digistised now at least the first 2000 I scrolled thru - as if they doing whole batches of them without specific requests behind them?

Annie! The walkthru Trish gave you was for requesting a "Not Yet Examined" item to be examined and opened I think  - but I'm having the biggest issue with the Open item!

As for the "Not yet examined" one for Eric, THAT one does go the ECommerce basket and wants to charge you for it! And it also says on that page :
" Digital copies are supplied via RecordSearch. When a digital copt is requested, low resolution images of the item are linked to the RecordSearch description for web-based viewing." And H0W, I ask!! HOW!!??  ::)

Might  it be worth emailing the archivist direct, they give an email adress as part of that form, and see what they say?

Re: the passenger list - may be a red herring, but the names and dates I thought were too interesting to pass over  ;D

Hi Sue  just saw your msg - does you  mean one isn't supposed to be able to  request a digital copy for those 2 items?  I tries finding another item anywhere (and an older one, in the 1800's time frame), and could not get anything up where a digital copy request was an option,,,, ???

Cheers
AMBLY

And this is puzzling me so much, I can't spell neither!! Doh!

In previous and brighter times Ambly, one firstly requested examination of the 'not yet examined' item and at the same time requested online digi.
Those marked OPEN just required the digi request.
In these dark times
EVERYHING HAS SEIZED UP!!!

So what Annie sees on that 'display results' page is all she is going to get it seems.

Being alive makes no difference.
In this case remember one file is marked OPEN and the other Not Examined and they are for the same man.

I noticed this problem as well - not being able to order a digital copy - very strange. I haven't looked at Annie's records - if we are talking WWI all is OK as they are being auto digitised and you cannot order same. But I have a problem with some WWII records.

If someone out there has time, the easiest way to resolve it it probably via a phone call to naa - I have in the past ordered digitisation this way. I have to go out for awhile, but will ring them tomorrow if not sorted

Hi all,

The NAA has changed to a pay-for-it digitising service now.  :(  I knew it was coming, but I wasn't sure when...the only good thing to come of it will be that the images will be of better quality (probably!  That's the rumour, anyhow).

Of the two records that exist for Eric William AVERY, one is from the series B4747 which is papers relating to service in the militia (voluntary forces), mainly up to the start of WW2.  You will get attestation papers, statements of service etc, just as for army records.

The other record is from series A9301 which is the WW2 RAAF service dossiers.  Not sure what sort of info you will get in that one, but it's usually a one-page service record with personal info and usually an ID photo too.

Annie, I'm going to PM you re the A9301 record  ;)
