Naval Records in 1901
« on: Monday 05 February 07 21:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
If someone was away at sea when the 1901 census was taken, would there have been any records taken on board their ship, please?
Many thanks,
Donna.

Is this what you mean Donna ? or do you mean any vessels ??

1901 Census - Royal Navy Ships

This is an index to Royal Navy ships

that were at sea or in ports abroad on 31st March 1901.

It is based on data in Public Record Office documents RG 13/5325 to 5335.

Thanks Annie. I'm trying to trace an ancestor who's missing from the 1901 census, and I thought he might have been at sea. Unfortunately I don't know which ship he might have been on, and he doesn't show up in the Naval Records on the National Archives site, either. I thought he might have been in the Navy in 1901, because he was in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves in WW1.
Thanks again for your help - that's a really useful link.    :)
