Tasmanian births look up

Hi all

Would someone be so kind as to look up whether any children were born to this couple in Tasmania.  They were married in 1844 and there had been a child born in 1843.  That child was William Henry Cook(e) who married (?) Catherine Matilda McMinn in Tasmania.

No more  children were born in NSW that I can see.

The couple are Thomas Henry Cook and Mary A Heeds.  There does not seem to be any record of their deaths in NSW either.

Not much luck, sorry Annette 

I can see Thomas & Mary's marriage in Gundaroo in 1844 but no children with those parents, not even William Henry in Tasmania.  Couldn't see William Henry's marriage either to Catherine Matilda I'm afraid.

Maybe someone else can find something?

I have sent for the marriage certificate for Thomas Henry and Mary A., and because I knew his parents name, found William Henry's birth, but his son William Harold remains a mystery.

I found through the net a cousin of my late husband who had done some family research, so she has been able to help.

Catherine Matilda McMinn was born on 2 April 1846 in Hobart (ref: 33/1665/1846)  Father:  Washington and Mother:  Phoebe GEE.

Yes thanks, I do have that.  Washington was a barrister and Phoebe Gee was the daughter of John Gee, Irish rebel and convict and Phoebe McClusky (?) another convict.  The McMinn/Gee story is fascinating.

But I can't find a marriage for William Henry Cook(e) and Catherine Matilda McMinn in NSW or Tas.  I have her death certificate and it states she was married in Tasmania.

A very intriguing family!!

I have found the following (you may or may not have this.....)

1.   William Harold Cooke eldest son of W.H -m - Matilda Ann CRUMP 3 d/o of late John.    ("Mercury Newspaper 19/8/1899 - St. Mary's"). 

2.   Phoebe McMinn is buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery here in Hobart and she is buried with a John GEE. (I couldn't read this properly from the CD).

3.  William Harold & Matilda Ann had a son:  William Alexander born 12/8/1905 at Inveresk (*Launceston) ref: 1905/110.

4.  Did not find any marriage of WH & Catherine Matilda in Tasmania.  But found another newspaper reference to a Emily Manly Egerton McMinn the youngest daughter of the late GEORGE W who married 11 September 1869 to a William MILNE:  in SANDHURST VICTORIA.   You may have to look in Victoria perhaps?.   Reference for the two Mercury notices :  9 October 1869 and 18 September 1869.

If it is of interest, Emily Manly Egerton Milne is buried at Bendigo cemetery.
She died in 1923
There are other Milne's You may see some children.

Thanks for the information Sparrett and Webby.  William Harold Cooke was my late husbands grandfather, and his father was the William Alexander born in Launceston.

I however, did not have the newspaper articles, and will see if I can get them through the State Library in Qld. or the Qld Genealogical Society.

John Gee was Phoebe McMinn's father, Irish Rebel and Convict who lived to be 100 years old.

I have managed to make contact with a descendant of Emily Manly Egerton, and she has sent me documentation on the McMinn family, very througly researched.

There are evidently papers in the Mitchell Library in Sydney relating to the McMinn family and a connection with James of Scotland.

I also made contact with a long lost cousin of my husband who has done family research, but the origins of Cooke men are not really known.

William Henry was born in NSW,  and his parents were married at Gundaroo NSW.

As you say, a most intruiging family.

This is probably a long shot, but the name Day has come to my attention.  There was a child Daisy Day who died of "a wasting disease", where I don't know, but it would seem that it is possible that Catherine Matilda was the mother.
