That's it Lones,

Bigger is better (More Pixels that is).

Big prints (Photos) take longer to scan and use more space as a generalization.

300dpi on a scanner, scanning say a postcard size, is usually fine. up to say 600 would be good for restoration requiring detail.

Large prints, say plate size (6.5" X 8.5") at 600 would end up as a large file on your PC. No good to transmit to Rootschat. So a reduction in image size would be necessary. Don't forget if you have scanned it into say photoshop it would be a (dot) ".PSD" file which when converted (saved as) a Jpeg for example will be compressed.

See an example at "Hay Time" I scanned this 10 X 8 at 800dpi into Photoshop, ended up with a 20Meg file, repaired and saved as Jpeg and reduced file size to 470Kb before transmittion. So - big piccy at RC end with loads of pixels for restorers to play with.

After playtime and results are posted, you can copy them into your graphics program and downsize 'em to fit on your mantle piece or whatever and not the shed wall.

This missive is not evidence in a court  ;D (in case I get hassle).

Only joking Denn

Best regards George
Scan at 300 plus for restores please. Scan at larger dpi for small photos. Don't forget to crop the scanner bed out! (Them's the white bits)
