Capt RE Active?

Hi there

just come across a cousin in the 1881 Census whose husband John Morgan, gave his occupation as "Capt R E Active".

What would 'RE' signify?  Royal Engineers perhaps?

There address was:  Military Rd Colchester St Giles, Essex, England - not sure if that is significant?

Hi Jane,

Yes he would have been in the Royal Engineers.

The Active part could just mean that he was still in the service, but home on leave.
