Simmons Gravesend
« on: Wednesday 07 February 07 09:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm seeking any information on the descendants of Thomas Simmons, Thomas and wife Harriet moved from Sussex to Gravesend in 1870.
The children of Thomas and Harriet are Bernard, Charlotte, Thomas, Harriet, William, Florence, Albert, Ada, George, Frederick and Henry.
The family lived 5 Albion Terrace and then 64 Milton Road Gravesend.  I know that Bernard and George died as children and Charlotte married John Humphrey but she died when she was just 21.  I believe that Thomas jnr moved to West Ham in 1901 to work as a printer.  Any further information from approx1870, on this family would be much appreciated.
Thank You
Speedy

Hi Speedy

I'm not sure if you are aware but there are a number of parish registers for Gravesend online

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bl/

They can be rather tedious to search but events can sometimes be narrowed down by first viewing the bmd indexes http://www.ancestry.co.uk to establish some rough dates.

Hi,  Thank you for the suggestions, unfortunately the Cityark records do not contain any entries for bmd at St Peters & St Pauls, Milton after 1889.  I have already established where the family were living using the census records.  I was rather hoping someone would have some first hand knowledge of that generation of Simmons, that they could share.
Thank you again
Sheila

Hi Sheila
Having a trawl through the ark.....  Holy Trinity was near Albion Terrace and New Road before they pulled it down in the 60's.
Found a William Horace b 20 March 1900.... parents are a William and Mary living 54 Edwin St ,he was a waterman.    jpg 425 entry 591
The baptisms for this church start 1845 until 1962. In 1901 baptisms, there is a couple of Payne names as well. Maybe worth having a quick look.
Best wishes......Iris :)
