« on: Wednesday 07 February 07 14:43 GMT (UK) »
Evening All!
This unit is mentioned with the Lincoln,s in Egypt 1882.Does anyone know if it was part of the Regt; or attached?
The main battle of the time was at Tel El Kebir,
where I also served, pity I never knew then!

Hi,
Can I ask where this mention of the Lincolns in Egypt is from?
It's just that they weren't in Egypt in 1882  ??? ???

1st Battn were in England, 2nd Battn were in India.

Well!
I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again, found where my error happened.
Not the bit referring to the split of the Lincoln,s,but 7th coy mounted infantry.
Subject was an Officer who had been killed in S.Africa, part of his obit.
My apologie,s Neil.
Now for a Vinegar bandage and a nice lie down!

Neil.
Have worked out the cause of my confusion,(of which there are many).
Once I had calmed down,I remembered that the item about the 'split Lincolnshire,s'was not specific as to Battalion,s,so went into it again.Such was the case,2nd Batt;to Egypt,1st to India,so now that,s my target. With better result,s I do sincerely hope.
Cancel India, the Mahdi one in the Sudan need,s my attention!

I can only repeat Goggy, neither of the Lincolnshire Regt battalions was anywhere near Egypt in 1882, not even a detachment (I have the relevant medal roll for Egypt 1882, including Tel-el-Kebir)

2nd battn wasn't in Egypt at all during the Victorian period.
1st battn was in Egypt/Sudan in 1897-98, inc. Omdurman. Could that be the era you're referring to?

If you're interested in someone specific, give us a name.
Can always hunt out casualty information etc.
