So there is :D  Wow you are good at this.  8)

Incidentally Union Street is where Lemmey lived when she got married in 1906.

I knew the Dallaways (I'm going for the certificate spelling  ;) ) were related somehow.   I'm going to have fun with them also - what with Gardner/Gardiner/Gardener and Dallaway/Dellaway/Dilloway/Dulloway/Dulaway  ::)

Thanks very much Kath
p.s.  I am having problems with IE 7 I think - my computer has crashed a further 3 times  >:(

eta for first choice birth I'm going for Elizabeth Ann Strudwick Mar 1854 Epsom 2a 8 I think.  Was the only one on a search between 1851 - 55 and it seems they were probably in the Croydon area.  May send for this and will be able to confirm right one by mother's name Jane then can see who the father was (she says optimistically)

London - COOKE

Staffordshire - TOOTH, DEVALL

George and Harriet Dellaway had these children baptised at St John the Baptist, Croydon (same Church as Henry and Jane's daughter):

HARRIET DELLAWAY
Christening: 21 APR 1844 Saint John The Baptist, Croydon, Surrey
 MARTHA DELLAWAY
Christening: 10 MAR 1850 Saint John The Baptist, Croydon, Surrey
GEORGE DELLAWAY
Christening: 29 AUG 1847 Saint John The Baptist, Croydon, Surrey
ALFRED DELLAWAY
Christening: 31 JUL 1853 Saint John The Baptist, Croydon, Surrey
JANE DELLAWAY
Christening: 26 APR 1846 Saint John The Baptist, Croydon, Surrey

Something you might take into consideration re the birth certificate:  In 1861 there is a 7 year old Elizabeth Strudwick living in Ewell, Surrey, with parents Henry and Sarah. Her birthplace is Ewell, which comes under Epsom registration district.

Thanks Gallium both for the Dellaway information and the details of the other Elizabeth Strudwick.  I shall have to see if I can find both and if there is only the one at Epsom unfortunately it looks like that is more likely to be the Elizabeth you found  :(

How do you find your parish records?  Do you use Ancestry or something else?  I tried looking for what you found on Ancestry and it gave me no Dellaways in Surrey, only 2 in Shropshire and one Delaway in Surrey in 1761  ???

(p.s.  my computer died  >:(  I am now on a borrowed one hoping like mad my files can be retrieved from the hard drive  :'(  Just as well I have a tree on Ancestry I can get on with! )

Hi Lemmey

Sorry for not replying sooner - I've been away.

The International Genealogical Index - IGI contains lots of transcribed parish records - and is completely free. Use the search form here:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

When you search, it will come up with a list of names fitting your search terms.  Clicking on a name will give a bit more detail.

There are two main sources of records on the IGI. If the details you bring up for a name have: 'Extracted birth or christening/marriage record for the locality listed in the record' written beneath, this means someone has transcribed them directly from the parish records.

If you find 'Submitted by an LDS member' written beneath the details, they may still be accurate, but unfortunately sometimes they are not.  Either way it's best to check the original records youself if possible.

Not all parishes are covered, and so far as I know no parish is complete, so not finding a record on the IGI doesn't mean that it isn't out there somewhere.

Good luck!
