No Birth Reg or Baptism
« on: Thursday 08 February 07 12:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello All
I wonder if anyone has had the same problem as me with Relative whose Birth does not appear to be register and there is no Baptism.

My gt gt Grandfather John Robson was born around 1840, the 1841 Census says he is aged 1, John was the 6th Child to Parents John Robson and Eleanor Urwin
I have all the baptism of his previous Siblings born before 1837 and birth Registrations of siblings born after 1837
as follows
Robert born 1827 Newcastle
Jane born 1829 Walker, Newcastle
Mary Ann born 1831 Norton Co Durham
Elizabeth born 1833 as above
Douglas born 1835 Newcastle
John born 1840?
Margaret born 1841 Hetton-Le- Hole
Armstrong born 1843 as above
Richard born 1846 as above.
I have the birth regs of Margaret, Armstrong and Richard.
both Armstrong and Richard were baptised together in 1846 at St Nicholas Hetton-Le-Hole.
I dont have the Baptism for Margaret as well as my John.
1851 census as follows
John Robson Head aged 46 born Corbridge
Eleanor age 41 born Byker
John aged 11 born Sunderland
Margaret age 10 born Sunderland
Armstrong age 8 born Hetton-le-Hole

Maybe some one has an idea on this

Regards and Thanks
Allan Robson

I've got two that are really bugging me:

My great great grandfather William Henry Baldwin born 1856 probably Hackney.  I've ordered 2 different birth certificates so far with no luck.  Seems that in 1856 there was run in William Henry Baldwins!!

Secondly my Great Great Grandmother Helena Lorraine Lovekin Stamford Smith.  Ordered 3 birth certificates and I think one of them is correct but unfortunately either her mother was married to one man and had all her children by other different men or something else.  I keep getting certificates for children I believe to be Helena's siblings and they all have different fathers and have completely different fathers named on marriage certificates!!!

One day I will crack it!!!

Thanks Kerry
I think the key to your problem is was William Baldwin born in Hackney? I have been told that a birth should be registered were a child was born.
As for your other I think you have got the right one and if you can trace the Marriage of your gt,gt,grandmother's Mothers Marriage you may crack it.
Good luck

Allan

Hi Allan - I've done a search on FreeBMD for quarters Jun 1839- Jun 1840 (all potential 1 year olds at 1841) and found no John Robsons registered in Sunderland. I did however find a John Robinson Mar qtr 1840 - might be the name has been mistaken.

There are several possibilities
He wasn't registered or baptised
He was under a different name
He wasn't born in Sunderland (many people have "variable" places of birth on the census - have you traced him on later ones?). There are plenty of John Robsons registered in the general area in the period - could he be one of these?

Hi Allan

One of my main problems with William is the fact I find the London parishes so confusing, I must study further.

As to Helena, I have searched high and low for her mother's marriage with no success, despite having appeared between 1851 and 1891 in census with a guy called John Smith! and she is called Mrs Smith I cannot find a marriage for them anywhere.  One day when I've got about a week I shall sit down and go through all the John Smith marriages in Kent and Sussex!!!!!

Hello Kerry
My advice would to look for the marriage of Helena as her name is rarer than John Smith her marriage if after 1837 will be regisitered.

Allan

Is there a chance that they flirted with a non-conformist denomination?  Are there any non-conf. registers available for the area?  I found half a family of mine bap. as methodists with my ancestor then being bap. in the parish church at age 18.
Desperately seeking:
Martha Ann Keily - Limerick/Woolwich mid 1800s
Mary Jane Hawkins - Bridgwater c.1835
George Gulson - Warmfield or Mansfield 1790s
