Meritorious Service Medal
« on: Thursday 08 February 07 13:25 GMT (UK) »
My Great Uncle, John Charles Roberts served in the Army 1881-1915, with the14th Hussars/4th Manchester Regt/South Wales Borderers as a Bandmaster.
His records show he was awarded the MMS. 'Army Order' NO44/1942.
Any ideas why there is a 27 year gap? and where I can find details please?

The number of annuity MSMs was limited and so you went onto the "waiting list" and had to wait for a vacancy (ie a holder to die).

The MSM book notes that his full medal group is:
1914/15 Star trio, LSGC (EdvII) and MSM (GVI) and that the group is "known" (maybe in a private collection?)

Steve

Many thanks Steve,
Clears up the mystery. Does 'The Group is known', mean that the MSM Book's compilers know who has the medals? Thought there may have been some mention of them in John Charle's Will. Guess will never know.
Cheers,
Bob.

Sorry, forgot to ask if the entry gives his Army Service NO?
