Hi Ann,

can you gives us a bit more, what period are you look at ww2/ww1 or pre 1900? Where did Joe come from? Have you got a picture of him in uniform at all? that type of thing.
Anything in fact that will help to narrow it down will be of help.

The top picture looks like one of the Fusiliers, but the picture is not clear enough to determine which.

HI Ann,

The first picture shows  a member of one of the Fusilier's regiments whilst in the second one the cap badge is not that clear ( any chance that you can post a picture showing just that cap badge  but at a higher res' as it may come up better for someone to see). What I can say however is that the second photograph was taken sometime from 1915 as he is wearing a hat commonly known among the troops as a "gorblimey" this style of headwear which had ear flaps that tied together at the crown of the hat was introduced in that year.

As you all know I have been wrong with badges, but the Royal Fusiliers badges in my K and K book have the fuse far more upright.

The only ones I can get close with at the moment are the

1. Grenadier Guards,
2. The Honourable Artillery Company
3. Royal Munster Fusiliers.

If I had to pick one I would go for number two myself.
From looking at the picture there is something inscribed on the Bomb.
If he was a Grenadier he would have to be a Sgt or above for that, this man is not.
No. 2 has the letters HAC inscribed for all ranks and the lanyard suggests something to do with big guns I believe.

Fingers crossed.

Have a look at the badge on Ebay item 140083335865 if you search for Hpnourable Artillery Company.

I cannot find one anywhere else and my scanner is playing up.
