Hunted through 1851...no wonder they were hard to find!!
Mistranscribed as Proper!
Same address:
John Proper age 43 widow farmer of 160 acres
Mary Proper age 15 daughter
Margaret Proper age 13 daughter
John Proper age 9 son
plus 3 servants.

I agree, very sad. Last time I went there in October they were saying they could probably last until this October.
There was talk of using it as a training mine...which is good!
There is another private pit down the road that a lot of the boys will go to...and a lot of  the machinery etc.
Will go again before they close...to say goodbye :0((((
