Hull is a variation of Hill, an extremely common and widely distributed name, for someone who lived on or beside a hill. It comes from the Old English hyll. The sound represented by OE y developed in various ways in different dialects, and in  the west and central midlands became u.
From "The Oxford Names Companion".

Buckney is not listed, which is not surprising as it is such a rare name. There are only 40 in the 1881 Census, and 77 in the Office of National Statistics database, which contains a list of surnames in use in England, Wales and the Isle of Mann in September 2002.
It could be a variation of Bucknay which appears in Scotland.

It is a pain!

My great grandmother was a Buckney she lived in a small village in West Wales (most of the Buckneys in Wales came from this village). The church records were destroyed by fire, so I can only go back so far >:(

I have checked on the LDS site and the Buckneys just appeared in the UK in the mid 1600 (York) but from where I don't know.
