Thomas Noble/Tot Stephenson, Spital Tongues Newcastle
« on: Friday 09 February 07 18:56 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information about the owners of Stephenson Bros. Dairy  located at Dunn's Cottages off Hunters Road in Spital Tongues the late 1800s to 1940s?

paddwadd,

The Ward's Trade Directory for Newcastle, for 1890, is browsablesearchable  on line ( on the "Historical Directories" web site) along with many other directories.

The directories are broadly divided into three parts....

*Newcastle residents in street alpha-order.
*Residents in surname alpha-order
*Trades listed in alpha-order, with the appropriate tradespeople in surname alpha-order, under each trade.

After a quick browse, I could not see..

>Dunns Cottages off Spital Tongues ( but saw Dunns Terrace off Spital Tongues)

>Stephenson Bros company or anything like it.

-------------------------------------------

Under the trade of "Diarymen", there was a
" Mrs Stephenson, dairy", but residing elsewhere.

Michael:
Thank you so much for the lead. Hope I can access the directories.

Yes, I think that is the same "Mrs Stephenson' as I have their mother Phoebe Stephenson in the 1891 and 1901 census not living at that address - Dunns Terrace - but she definitely had a dairy, and I used to visit it as a child in the 1940s when it was run by Tot (Thomas), my grandfather
