Irish Guards
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 00:44 GMT (UK) »
My father..James Joseph Egan was in the Irish guards 1939-45. Based originally at Catterick camp Yorks..Subsequently became a Driver for Sir Peak-Frean ..yes the famous biscuit manufacturer. Served in FRANCE/Holland/GERMANY.
Was in Niemeigen when the bridge at Arnhem was lost.I gave him the book "A Bridge too Far"  many yrs ago.He was unable to go past the first few pages as it named his colleagues and commanding officer.

I have a fantastic picture of him in training..going over the "Greasy pole"

Anyone with any info please contact me.

Regards, Jimmys daughter. Marie xxx

Marie,I may be wrong (but that,s not unusual) are you looking for his regiment at the time he was a paratrooper,or part of the airborne landing brigade?
Airborne Landing Brigade was glider borne troop,s as opposed to using the 'brolly'.
