Census Help
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 13:23 GMT (UK) »
My ancestors lived in the same place for years as relatives have said, and I have found them in 1871 and 1881 census, but can't find them in the next two.  I have a copy of his will at the same address dated 1890 - I guess either the records are missing or they have been transcribed wrongly.  As I know they were in 1 Commercial Road, Newport, (St Woollos) I thought I could search by the address but not having much luck.  I have full subscription in Ancestry, but am drawing a blank.

Anyone able to advise on how to do an adress search?  Or how to find which Piece to look in?

It is the Woodruff (Richard b1836 being the head) family I am searching for.

Thanks - I have found that on ancestry now  - thank you much appreciated.  I wonder of one of the sons stayed in the other property.  I just can't seem to find anyone in 1891 or 1901.  I will have another hunt later.

The child I am interested in is Jarvis (b1867) - who had a sone Charles in 1901 ish

He was a china dealer - the family remember that there was china around the house for years after.

Glad it is just not me - but yet the census records seem to be there for that area...I spent ages on a place in North Wales and census for the whole area had in fact been lost!

I have a photocopy of a 'bill of costs' which were for the execution of Richards will in 1908 and I have 2 of the borthers on there with addresses:

Richard - 73 City Rd Cardiff
Thomas  - 22 Constane St Newport - so will have a looky around at those and see if they give any clues.

Thank you everyone - if any else can help?
