Monica,

Many thanks for your hard work - Unfortunately on his MC, Father is shown as Deceased - no help there.

Have done checks on the other Walter T that Capricorn found, but have then found him in later census' where our WTD is showing elsewhere.

We are now thinking he made up a lot of things (age/name/birth place ?) but will keep looking, just in case.

Thanks again,

Al & Al

Hi Al and Al

I didn't realise I had been on RC for so long until this message popped up!

Knowing slightly more now, than I did then - the civil registers for Scotland 1855-1875 are on the IGI, so if your man was born in Scotland in this time period he should be somewhere on the IGI.

Sorry - I note you've been through that already

Scotlands People has 1 Thomas Dalton born 1850 - no sign of a Walter. From the IGI he is a Thomas Henry - so I guess unlikely.

A further two years have again passed since last looking for the above gentleman with no further clues other than ......... the 1911 Census, where he is found in Wimbledon age 50 with a Birthplace showing of Edinburgh (Scotland).

Whilst no trace could previously be found looking throughout all of Scotland, are there any additional records that can now be searched specifically for Edinburgh ??

Thanks,

Al & Al

Hi,
Just read through your posting. Looked very closely at transcription on 1891 census and think the transcriber got a little lost. I think he may have misread SWANLEY, and wrote Scotand. And guess what, a WALTER THOMAS DALTON was born March 1/4 1858 Dartford 2a 263. Dartford includes in its reg dist "Swanley". If I'm up the creek sorry.

John

John,

Thanks for taking the time to look into our 'brickwall',  but we have tracked the other Dartford/Swanley/Longfield, Walter T Dalton from birth, through the census's and his subsequent marriage - when since 1891 our WTD has been found living and married elsewhere.

He is shown as born in Scotland in 1901 and we are hoping to open further doors with the latest discovery of Edinburgh being shown in 1911.

Thanks again,

Al & Al

We have been searching for the above gentleman for over a decade now and as we cannot get over his 'brickwall', we have decided to go around it and try coming back from the other side !

No, not by holding a séance, but by doing a DNA test to see if any paternal matches come up.

Who knows what connections might be found (if any), but we will let you know in due course,

In 1881 Census have found a WALTER DALTON Age 30 (ten years older , but may have lied in later years ?), who has the occupation shown as "Medical Profession Dentist" - which is very similar trade to the WTD we are seeking.

What was his trade? If he was a professional person with qualifications there may be a record of his training somewhere, or if he was a member of a guild or other professional body. That might give you some other info.

Hi There,
Just to say that there are Daltons in Edinburgh area.   They own Demolition and scrap company and are well know here.  May be worth while writing to them....

Just a thought.... ::)

Kirsty,
His profession has been shown as Chemist, Surgeon, Dentist & Medical Dispenser (and combinations thereof) and after enquiry, no trace could be found for him in the Register of Pharmaceutical Chemists, Chemists & Druggists nor at the British Medical Association. Whilst there are numerous other ‘medical’ organisations that we could enquire with, in the absence of any records to date, we believe that he initially worked along side another Chemist and learnt on the job ……. but would be happy to be proved wrong.

Lyndy,
Thanks for your thought. It may be possible that either he adopted the apostrophe or others may have dropped it. We might do some further investigations and check out the current day occupants of Edinburgh and work backwards …
