ASHWELL Family Bedfordshire
« on: Sunday 11 February 07 22:04 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor Mathew Ashwell (married to Sophia Crossley) from Kempston Bedfordshire. Does anyone know anything about the Ashwell family and the Crossley's also?

Thank you :)

Now I am looking for info on Edmund Ashwell ? 1538 who married Helina Peddar ? 1542 I think they came from Tottenhoe Bedfordshire.

Were the Ashwells farmers or labourers?

Have you checked:
 - BLARS for wills
- A2A/ BLARS for any references of any description
- TNA for PCC wills or any other references
- Google books for any references to the names
- Visitation of Beds to see if the name is mentioned

When you get to pre parish registers you need to check all possibilities for the name - and if you find any they are unlikely to be ag labs

My ancestor Thomas Medlock is believed to be the son of Alexander Medlock and Elizabeth Ashwell of Sutton Bedfordshire, Thomas was born c1769.

I don't know if Elizabeth features in your Family Tree.

Regards Ann.

Only "believed" to be? Is there are any doubt about Thomas Medlock baptised 9 April 1769 at Sutton, son of Alexander Medlock and his second wife Elizabeth Ashwell? Alexander and his first wife Mary Jakes were my 5x g grandparents.

Totternhoe and Sutton are at opposite ends of Bedfordshire.

Your Ashwell was around 200 years before Ann's, so who knows how far they might have moved! But on the face of it, possibly not.
