ASHWELL is not such an uncommon name in Bedfordshire?

Are you thinking there may be Wills?  If you contact Beds Archives they will let you know - if you wish to order any the charges are very reasonable

I hadn't thought about wills, I was just trying to find out if he was a farmer or not :)
