Army Roll of Honour - 1939 to 1945 - help please
« on: Monday 12 February 07 12:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am helping my friend to find details on her grandfather whom was a casualty in 1943.  She does not know any details about him, but thinks he may have been born in Wales.  His child was born a few months after his death in Birmingham.

My friend has not got the funds to get his service record yet.  From CWGC, we have his details of which are 4919074 Private William Frederick Davies, 2nd (Airbourne) Bn, South Staffordshire Regt.

I have been looking at sites with the Army Roll of Honour, and I see there is a William (initials WF) Davies, with a place of residence of Birmingham, place of birth of Monmouthshire, this looks likely to be him.

My question is, with the info, we already have, would it be worthwhile to view the record (it would cost £5, to get the minimum credits), would the record actually show which part of Monmouthshire?

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Kath,

Just a thought, perhaps ask on the general board if someone has a credit spare for the website you are looking at and can do the look-up for you  :D

There are some very kind peeps on Rootschat.  You never know 'till you ask  :-\

Wendi  :)

Hi Wendi,

Did what you suggested and within no time at all, a kind rootschatter came up trumps, and we now know it is definitely the same William F Davies and now, instead of "possibly born in Wales", we now know, he was from Monmouthshire :)

Regards,
Kath
