« on: Monday 12 February 07 16:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi
My G Grandfather is burried at Harrismith he died in 1904 and was with the Army Dragoon Guards. I have an old photo of his grave and wondered if anyone was near to please take me another photograph of this grave in 2007  this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks Val

Hello Val,
Did you have any luck with somebody taking your photo at Harrismith/
I also have somebody buried there 1901.
We could share some costs.
Thanks - Bruce from Canada

I don't think u are going to get someone who will be prepared to take these photos.   in South Africa we cannot risk going into a cemetery unless u are part of  a small army!!
this morning my husband had a funeral and the son of the person being buried brought his ,45!!!
the grass is just about shoulder high and thieves and rapists hideout there.
here in Bloemfontein we have had quite a number of attacks and that mainly on the elderly.

Hi there
I came across the following site today.    Have a look at it, I don't say your families are one of the graves, but who knows you might have some luck!!
God Bless

Hi,
Have you tried these people  http://www.southafricawargraves.org/index.htm

The site suggests that they cover the Harrismith Cem. (Listed under Freestate Cemeteries) and that you can put in a request for a photo.  I had an uncle who was a civilian and died during the Rand Revolt in 1922 and they have his name listed at Brixton Cem.

Hello John,
Thanks for your input. I had sent a request awhile ago. A good reminder to send off another one.
Thanks.  - Sgt. Vic

What are the individual names - I have a cemetery listing cd which they must have originally taken photos of the gravestones.
