missing spouse 1871 census

Hi.. please could anyone advise me....

I have a Ellen Woodcock..  born abt 1845  says aldershot hampshire..
soldiers wife .. no named hubby.
      based at queens road .. aldershot..
census  rg10.. piece 816... folio 18... page 29..

can any one please advise me as to how i can find out who her spouse was .. and what rank etc he held..

Hi. As a first step I think you should try searching for Woodcock living Aldershot and see if a married soldier comes up living on his own in the Barracks.
There is a John Woodcock that would fit and as he is the only game in town, so to speak, I would see if I could confirm that somehow or other.
There is also the young Denny Woodcock aged 7 months in 1871, you could go for his birth certificate which would list his father.

They seem to turn up 1891 in Loughborough, John, Ellen and Arthur W and John H plus younger kids.
