I couldn't find a John Callender baptism for Lanchester in 1792 but I did find an Ann Callender baptised 28 Oct 1793 daughter of Robert Callender of Dipton, surgeon.

And Maria Callender (father's name blank), 25 Dec 1789, Dipton, surgeon

It is a possibility that surgeon is family occupation

Yes it seems to be a family thing.
GGG Grandfather John Callender b. 1791 Lanchester was a surgeon..he had a son Michael that went on to become one.
Michaels Brother my GG Grandfather Edward E Callender b.1820 Ovingham was a surgeon.
Its funny... my Dad whos mother was a Callender...he went on to become a nurse as did i and 2 of my sisters and a brother.
