Dazed and Confused
« on: Tuesday 13 February 07 23:19 GMT (UK) »
HELP!  This is doing me head in.
I've gone back as far as the 1841 census.  They don't give you much info on that census, do they?

I'd like to know who is related to who because I'm lost.  I've got the following;

1841 census.  Stocking Field, Sollers Dilwyn, Hereford.

Francis Preece   60 Ag labourer   Born Hereford, c 1781
Elizabeth Preece   60      Born Hereford, c 1781
Mary Preece   25      Born Hereford, c 1816
Catherine Preece   15      Born Hereford, c 1826
Elizabeth Preece   15      Born Hereford, c 1826

John Preece   35      Born Hereford, c 1806
Sarah Preece   25      Born Hereford, c 1816
William Preece    5      Born Hereford, c 1836
Edward Preece     1      Born Hereford, c 1840

Probably Francis is the Head with Elizabeth as his wife.
John is the son?  Mary and Sarah the twin daughters? Or is one of them John's wife?
Are are the others grandchildren or children?
Who is John married to?

Can anyone help?  Please.

Hey Roan...

You think you've got it bad....Mr Indi has a Price who married a Preece who married a Price...in Herefordshire...grrrr

The thing about the 1841 that you must remember is that the enumerator was instructed to round DOWN the ages of the adults and children over 10 years of age to the nearest 5 year increment.. So, the fact that there are 2 children aged 15 simply means that they were between 15 and 19.
So....the ages can be very iffy.
As far as relationships.....I try and go back and forth between the 1841 and the 1851 to try and nail them down.
Sometimes it works....and sometimes it does yer 'ed in !

Cheers
Indi

Thanks Indi,
I feel a lot better now!!
The trouble is, I don't know where to go prior to 1841.
I think I'll pack in all this family history and do something worthwhile, like collecting beer bottle tops or seeing how long I can hold my breath for.

Roan

Have you diddled about with the IGI?
http://www.familysearch.org/

Or the Hugh Wallis web site? You can search the batch number for Dilwyn
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm

You might be able to nail things down that way...

Or......where are you..?????....get down the local LDS Family History Center and look at the films for Dilwyn....

Or...do what I did...went to Leintwardine (where the Price's came from) and sat in the pub and thought about it all!

I like the last idea best.  Except it would have to be Morriston, Swansea, ot Hereford.
And it certainly won't be India Pale Ale!  YUK!  I remember that from a long time ago.  Do they still make that stuff.

Hi Tony,
You may have already seen this but there's a marriage between Francis Preece and Elizabeth Palmer on the IGI 3rd August 1806.Aymestrey.Don't know if that's any use but i think that it is just down the road from Dilwyn..?
